Hello there lovelies! As we come to the end of the month, it’s time to do what most YouTubers do but in blog form: my monthly favorites! Before I took a hiatus from this blog, I used to do a monthly post on what I liked, loved, and disliked in that month. I was inspired by Claire Marshall to do this based on her videos where she does a monthly beauty review.

Basically, instead of just talking about what I love, I want to take it up a notch by talking about products I might be on the fence about and what I really didn’t like in this month. So without further ado, let’s find out what I have and haven’t liked in January!

This is the NYC Instant Matte BB Cream in Medium. I bought it a while ago and I tested it out with mediocre results.

First off, the color selection is very limited so I feel like only very fair-skinned to lightly tanned people can use this product. Secondly, it provides almost zero coverage, which would mean the most it can do is even out your skin tone. I’ve never been able to test this product out alone because it doesn’t create a good base for my face, but from what I have seen from the few times I’ve applied this alone on my skin is that I don’t think it’s a color match and it won’t cover up any acne or scarring.

I wasn’t expecting much from this product since it’s a BB cream and not a foundation, but I thought it would at least even out some of the scarring to a point where I would be comfortable with how my skin looked.

In the end, this would probably be a product I would use if I went to the beach and felt insecure about my skin or if I needed a very natural look. I am currently using it in combination with my Revlon foundation, which is full coverage. Since my skin is behaving right now, I like to combine this BB cream with my foundation to create lighter coverage and to slightly lighten my foundation shade to accommodate my lighter skin tone.

Overall, I don’t love this product and I’m also unsure about how much I like it. Rating: 4/10

This will be a short and sweet review because I don’t have much to say about this product except I don’t really like the smell of this lotion. It also takes a while to sink into the skin.

I use this as a hand lotion, so I hate having greasy hands because everything gets slippery and the lotion leaves fingerprints on things like your phone. Besides that, it does moisturize and it’s a good travel size, but I recently bought a different travel size lotion that I’m trying out instead.

I’ve had this lip gloss for a while now, but I always forget how much I love it until I grab it because I can’t find any of my other current favorite lip products. This is a Revlon Colorburst lip gloss in Bordeaux.

When worn straight out of the tube, it’s a dark burgundy color with lots of shine. However, I wear it by applying it on my lips and then blending it out with my finger and it turns into a pink-red flush of color on my lips which looks more natural. I’ve been wearing this almost every day recently and I love how it looks. I’ve definitely fallen in love with this gloss all over again.

Another gloss I’ve been loving has been this Almay one in Apple a Day. Normally, I’m not a lip gloss person but these ones are easy enough to work with so that I can blend them out and make them look more natural.

These Almay lip glosses are definitely not that pigmented, so I wouldn’t recommend them to people who love vibrant glosses. Instead, they tend to add a tint of color and a little shine. So don’t be scared off by Almay’s packaging if you don’t like bright colors. This red lip gloss translates into a slight tint on your lips which I personally like to add just a little color into my face. I wore this lip gloss more often at the beginning of the month, but I still really like it.

For the longest time, I was hooked on a Hollister body spray called Seacliff Beach and it was my go-to scent, but recently I discovered this body spray from Bath and Body Works and I absolutely love it. It’s almost impossible for me to describe scents, but I really like this fragrance because it’s not too sweet or fruity.

I bought this eyeliner from Ulta a long time ago and I tested it out a few times. While it’s not a bad eyeliner, it breaks easily and it’s not super pigmented although the blue is visible. It’s a dark blue eyeliner and it works like a pencil liner. I would get more of these since they’re so cheap, but I don’t think they’re worth the money. This could work in a pinch though if you can’t find your usual liner and need a natural look.

Not much to say about this except that it’s a favorite of mine! I bought it earlier this month at Disneyland since I’ve been eyeing it for about the last 6 months and I really like it. I love how simplistic it is and how it goes with a lot of things.

I was going to do a comparison post about these eyebrow spoolies, but I figured that would be pretty boring so I’ll just compare them here. The one on the left is from Sonia Kashuk and the other one is from E.L.F.

I don’t really like the eyebrow brush on the Sonia Kashuk one but I do like the eyelash separator. At first, I didn’t like the spoolie from E.L.F either because I was used to eyebrow brushes that were like the Sonia Kashuk one, but now I prefer spoolies. I would definitely recommend the E.L.F spoolie because it’s inexpensive and works pretty well. The Sonia Kashuk brush does have a good metal eyelash separator so I would recommend it for that, but the eyebrow brush just isn’t what I like to use on my brows anymore.

Rating (Sonia Kashuk): 5/10              E.L.F: 8/10

So did you notice the background for my flatlay photo at the beginning of the post? It looked like a nice, fuzzy rug right? WRONG, LOL. It’s actually the cardigan I’m wearing in the photo above! I haven’t had too many chances to wear this cardigan but I really love it. I never thought I would be the type of person to wear this type of outerwear since I don’t like anything faux fur but this cardigan is just fuzzy enough for me. 🙂 Plus it’s super warm and cozy and dresses up your outfits.

I feel like this works best as a nighttime piece, but I was able to get away with wearing it during the day since I was in LA and we went to The Broad (see more here!). It’s pretty big on me even though it’s a size small, but I think as long as you wear a form-fitting outfit underneath, you won’t be swallowed up by it.

And my last favorite of the month would have to be my phone. It’s the Galaxy S6 and I got it last November. It’s very similar to the S5 but I like that I picked white this time because it looks clean and minimal. It runs out of battery faster than the S5 and it’s not waterproof anymore but I basically love this phone because of its camera. I feel like I don’t need to bring my actual camera around because the camera on my phone is such high quality. Plus I’m just grateful that I have a smartphone to rely on because I use it quite a lot since school started again.

So those are the products I liked and disliked for the month of January! I hope this post was helpful in some way and that you enjoyed it. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you lovelies next week!
