Hello lovelies, welcome back to Makeup Monday! Today I wanted to give some tips on how you can look more awake with the magic of makeup!
1. Conceal, conceal, conceal
I like to use Maybelline’s Age Rewind concealer in Light to cover up my dark circles. If you want to look less tired, the eyes and the area around it are your main focus.
2. Lift those lashes
Mascara is important to every girl who wants those fluttery lashes when they bat their eyes at the world. More importantly, the right mascara helps to lift your lashes and curl them to open up your eyes and make you look more awake. If you have more time or you’d prefer it, a natural set of falsies would definitely create that fluttery effect.
As for me, I just pile on the mascara until they’re as visible as possible without being too clumpy. Maybelline’s Lash sensation does a really good job at volumizing, lengthening, and defining without clumping up on me.
3. Add a glow
By now, we’re probably all exhausted of hearing about the highlighting trend, but it really does help to make you look healthier and even more awake. I don’t believe in using a lot of highlighter, especially since I have oily skin and I don’t think it looks that great in real life when you use a lot, but I believe in using it in moderation to create a healthy, natural looking glow.
I use NYX’s roll on shimmer (still on the hunt for my perfect affordable highlighter!) in nude and I place it on the highest points of my cheeks and cupid’s bow. The reason why highlighter would make you look more awake is because if you have a glow to your skin, you’ll look like you had a good night’s sleep which would make you look more awake! Am I right or am I right? 🙂
4. Do some matte highlighting
How do you highlight with a matte color? Well, that’s a great question. I like to highlight my brow bone with a matte shadow because I tend to use a little shimmer on my lids so highlighting my brows with shimmer seems like overkill to me.
Instead, I use Wet n Wild’s single shadow in Creme Brulee and place it as a base on my entire lid and highlight right underneath my brow bone so it looks clean and lifts my eye, which again, will make me look more awake.
5. Add some shimmer to your eyes
This eyeshadow quad has been featured so many times on my blog by now, but let’s talk about it again, shall we? When it comes to looking less tired, I reach for the white shadow and swipe this all over my lid and into my inner corner and that’s it! I don’t bother with defining my crease or adding dimension; a color a couple shades lighter than your skin tone will definitely perk up your eyes.
6. Aww, I’m blushing!
Well, actually I’m not, but I might if I get a compliment about looking good when I’m tired. If you want to fake that healthy flush of color, do it with a cute pink blush like this one! This is Babydoll from Essence and I love this color on my skin. Blush is a must if you want to look like you slept and especially if you use base products to add some color back into your face.
7. Make your lips stand out!
If you look like you have some designer bags under your eyes or your concealer just isn’t doing the trick today, divert everyone’s attention from your eyeballs to your mouth with a bright lipstick!
This is Revlon’s Pink Velvet; it was most recently featured in last week’s Makeup Monday, but I thought it should make another appearance here because it’s the color I always go to when I need something bright but not too bold. You could use a bright red, coral, orange, fuschia; the sky’s the limit as long it distracts everyone from how tired you look, right?
I swear there’s a difference in real life, but the camera didn’t pick up everything. All the products I talked about are on my face in the after picture, so hopefully you can at least tell that my makeup looks more complete with those products in use.
So that’s my Makeup Monday post! I hope you enjoyed it and it was helpful in some way; let me know what your tips are in the comments below!
And I have a surprise announcement! It’s nothing crazy, but I wanted to let you all know that starting from now, I’ll be blogging Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays instead of Mondays through Fridays. The simple reason is that it’ll be a little easier for me.
I’ve been taking a few mini breaks recently because I feel pressed for ideas and I don’t want to put out content that I’m not proud of. In addition to that, I’ve always “failed” at blogging. Life always gets in the way and I can never keep up, especially during the school year. But I really want this to work out, so I’m hoping that cutting it down to posting 3 times a week will make things easier on me. In return, you all will continue getting quality content, but just a little bit less of it.
I hope to go back to posting 5 days a week, but until things get a little more settled in my life or I get better at handling it, I’ll be posting every week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoons, so look forward to it! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you lovelies on Wednesday!
