Hello lovelies! Today I’m going to be doing a review on the Maybelline Fit Me foundation in the matte and poreless formula!

WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO

The Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation is supposed to mattify skin and leave your skin looking flawless by filling in your pores while also looking natural. It has “blurring micro-powder” technology that will “erase pores and absorb oil.” The matte and poreless version is targeted towards normal to oily skin types. It retails for about 8 dollars in most drugstores and comes in a large selection of shades.

I know this foundation has been on the market for a while, but I thought now would be the best time to review it since I’ve been using it consistently for the last year or so.

THE COLOR SELECTION

When shopping for this foundation, you do get a larger choice of colors to choose from than most foundations; it’s actually quite impressive to see this at a drugstore level.

However, I did struggle with finding my perfect shade. Although they boast that you’ll find your perfect fit, it’s still not a perfect system. I found a color that looked the best after 3 tries, but I think it would be an even closer match if I used 2 shades together. I’m in the shade 128 Warm Nude, but if I had to mix it with another shade, I would pick 120 Classic Ivory because they both have light yellow undertones.

APPLICATION

I’m probably one of the last bloggers left on this earth who doesn’t have a beauty blender, so I use a flat-top brush or my Real Techniques Expert Face brush to apply this and it works just fine.

Upon application, I do notice that my skin looks matte and my pores are blurred. You can tell I’m wearing makeup in real life, but I probably look airbrushed in photos.

It’s medium coverage; you’ll need a concealer to cover breakouts and any scarring. Every foundation I’ve worn transfers with my oily skin, and this is no exception. Otherwise, it doesn’t feel heavy or tacky after you’ve finished your makeup. I usually wear a couple thin layers of this foundation and it doesn’t really feel like you’re wearing a medium coverage base.

HOW IT WEARS

This is not a foundation that will last all day on oily skin, at least from my experience. Although it looks almost flawless on initial application, I can feel my oils start to come through around the 4-5 hour mark. At about 6 hours, I definitely have to blot and a little of my foundation will come off when I try to remove the oil around my nose and chin. If it’s been a long day, my foundation will feel sticky and start to separate, which is pretty unappealing. I’ve used the Rimmel Fix and Perfect Pro, the Rimmel Stay Matte primer, and the Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation primer and I still got oily.

It’s possible to try and touch it up by blotting and apply some concealer to the worst spots without it looking too bad, but I’ve usually given up by then. Thankfully, I’ll probably be at the end of my day and I can take it off and go to bed.

I usually try one foundation at a time, so I wore it for every situation, whether it was a short or long day (probably anywhere between 6-12+ hours), and on special occasions. Even though I got oily, I just dealt with it. Surprisingly, I don’t think I’ve ever looked terrible in any photos even if I’m oily. In pictures, I look like I have a strong glow rather than an oil slick. This doesn’t have SPF, so you won’t get a white cast in flash photography.

THE VERDICT?

I’ve recently switched foundations, and I have found something I like more. However, this foundation is something I wouldn’t mind having in my collection for a casual day where I don’t need my makeup to look perfect all day or for those days where I only need to wear it for a few hours. It would work well in the case of a photoshoot because it photographs well and you would only need to look good for a couple hours anyways.

The color match is one of the best I’ve found so far, and that’s saying a lot considering I’m terrible at finding matches for my skin (I think that’s a me problem though, haha). If it lasted better on my skin, this would be my favorite foundation, but it does work decently well for the price. It is also marketed for normal skin types, and I feel like it would perform better on those who don’t produce as much oil. However, if you’re oily-skinned like me and you’re looking for your holy grail foundation, this probably isn’t the one.

With that said, I’m still going to try it out with other setting sprays and primers to see if I can get it to work, but otherwise, I would skip this if you’re looking for a really good quality foundation for oily skin types.
