Valentine-less this year? Me too.
I’ve never had a valentine, and I guess this year’s no different. In high school, I used to dislike the streamers and giant hearts plastered all over the hallways and couldn’t wait for the day to be over. Now that social media is in full swing, pictures are plastered all over the internet of people declaring their love for each other. So what’s a girl to do when love is everywhere on Valentine’s Day and you’re not in love with anyone?
First of all, become your own valentine. ? I wrote a post on how I became my own valentine last year. I also put together a Valentine’s Day outfit 2 years ago that you can find here.
This year, I decided to create 2 outfits for Valentine’s Day; one for daytime and one for nighttime. You can wear either of these during the day or evening for a casual date, a little adventure, or even running errands if you’ve got no special plans because they’re so versatile. They’re also layerable too!
OUTFIT #1
This is probably the outfit I’ll be wearing for Valentine’s Day since I’m just going to be running errands, interning, and taking myself to see a movie. ? It’s super comfy and cozy, which will be perfect for my semi-hectic day.
When I wore this outfit 2 years ago for Valentine’s Day, I chose ankle boots, but I think these heels are super cute and dress up the outfit.
These heels are from JCPenny; I got them on sale during the holidays and I’ve been wearing them for work. They’re great because they’re closed-toe heels with a cute studded strap and the heel is only a couple inches high so they won’t strain your feet. It’s been hard to find closed-toed heels for work and comfortable shoes even after my surgery, but these ones are a winner!
Look how soft and furry this sweater is! In recent years, I’ve been preferring interesting textures over patterns and prints, so this is a super fun sweater to wear. It feels like a cloud hugging you. 🙂
This is my third year owning this sweater and we’re still going strong! #slowfashion On top of that, I know that if I ever get tired of wearing this out, it’ll easily double as sleepwear because it’s so soft! Ugh, the more I look at this sweater, the more I wanna sleep in it right now! ?
And lastly, I accessorized with a necklace my grandmother gave me and some rings I’ve been wearing a lot lately. If it gets super cold, you can throw a long coat on top and wear some boots or sneakers instead. It’s going to be raining on Valentine’s Day here in California, so I’ll probably have to layer up!
OUTFIT #2
Now this is an outfit for all y’all who have a Valentine this year. Or not! But in all seriousness, this is a super cute outfit for date night.
If you’re going casual, wear some sneakers. If you’re going out, add some heels and a fancy coat. Best of all, you could even wear this to work since it’s a shirt dress with some work-appropriate shoes and switch them out when it’s time to meet your significant other.
If you told me a few years ago that I’d start to own pink items in my wardrobe, I would’ve said hell no, that’s a damn lie. But slowly, I’ve started to really enjoy blush pink!
It’s light enough to almost be a neutral, but pink enough to add some color into your closet. If I’m being completely honest, I still cringe when I see pink items and I would pick blue over pink any day, but now I don’t freak out so much if something [blush] pink enters my life.
Also, this shirt dress is from Old Navy! I got it because I’ve been wanting a shirt dress for months. I originally was looking for one in an olive green, but this light pink caught my eye. Something I like about Old Navy is their wide selection of petite items, so I bought this in a petite small and it fits me perfectly (I’m 5’3″)!
The tie is great for accentuating the waist and the sleeves aren’t too long since it’s a petite size. I wore this on my birthday last year and I got a lot of compliments! ?
I’ve also been enjoying my white sneakers from Puma. After parting with my dirty white Converse that I wore for years (so cute but so painful, ouch), these are my new replacements. For the most part, they’re pretty comfy and go with a lot of outfits!
Honestly, both outfits can work for day and night depending on the shoes, outerwear, and accessories. Don’t be afraid to play around with dressing down fancy outfits and dressing up casual outfits!
So, whether you’ve got a Valentine or not…
Just treat it like a day full of love. For yourself, your family, your friends, your pets, and your lover. And if you don’t want to celebrate, that’s okay. Go about your day normally and stay off of social media (my personal tip) so you don’t get dragged down the rabbit hole of comparison and envy.
If I had a Valentine, I would be happy. But I’m happy without one too. One day, I’ll be celebrating this day with someone special. But until then, I’ll be spending all my love on myself and my loved ones. ♡
What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Leave it in the comments! I’ll see you lovelies soon! ♡
