Fashion Month is back, and I’m so excited to be writing about fashion weeks again! Today we’ll be focusing on Copenhagen Fashion Week!
MICHAEL OLESTAD
“His collections touch upon notions of experience, biography and introspection through the medium of fashion.”
WHO IS MICHAEL OLESTAD?
Michael Olestad founded his label in 2016 and specializes in womenswear. He enjoys experimenting with draping different fabrics and creating unique silhouettes. Because of the way his pieces are designed, it allows the individual to experiment with the finished piece.
So far, the National Museum of Norway has purchased some of his pieces for their permanent collection and Olestad has won the 2017 BIK BOK Runway Award, the 2018 Scheibler Foundations Design Award, and the 2019 Epson Award.
THE FALL 2020 COLLECTION
This autumn/winter collection for 2020 was filled with neutral outfits as well as looks that were full of color. Each model’s silhouette was draped with oversized pieces or form-fitting tops that were cinched in at the waist with a belt. Exaggerated, deconstructed ruffles and fringe added dimension and color came in the form of tie-dye and paisley and floral prints. Although there were many chunky, oversized pieces in the show, the collection still maintained a polished and modern feeling throughout.

WOOD WOOD // DESIGNERS: KARL-OSKAR OLSEN & BRIAN SS JENSEN

WHO IS WOOD WOOD?
Wood Wood is a Copenhagen-based brand that was founded in 2002 by Olsen and Jensen as a contemporary fashion and lifestyle brand. Influenced by the street culture of the 90s, they decided to combine high fashion and streetwear with youthful, artistic touches to create stylish yet functional pieces.
Known best as Contemporary Streetwear, the brand looks to continuously evolve by combining high fashion with an urban, sporty aesthetic. Over the years, they’ve collaborated with over 50 brands, including Nike, Barbour, and Adidas.
THE FALL 2020 COLLECTION
This autumn/winter collection focused on simple outerwear in the form of vests, coats, and windbreakers while using a neutral color palette. Each outfit was simple and wearable, but was complemented with different textures and prints, such as knit accents and stripes. Overall, this collection is definitely one that can easily go from runway into the streets with its style and functionality.

MARK KENLY DOMINO TAN

WHO IS MARK KENLY DOMINO TAN?
While some designers have stories of struggles and others of success after making their way through fashion school, Mark Kenly Domino Tan has his own unique tale of being discovered at age twelve and designing his first dress for the Danish Royal Family (and still currently designs for Her Royal Highness, Crown Princess of Denmark, Mary). He then went on to attend the Kolding School of Design while honing his craft at international fashion houses such as Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga.
Tan launched his eponymous brand in 2012 and became well known for his feminine yet structured, timeless, and aesthetically-pleasing collections. His tailoring and innovative use of fabrics makes every look feel luxurious and elegant. In 2018, MKDT studios launched their first flagship boutique in Copenhagen in honor of their 5-year anniversary.
THE FALL 2020 COLLECTION
Every piece from this 2020 autumn/winter collection looked luxurious and classy, embodying the epitome of elegant European fashion. Flowy yet structured silhouettes carried these looks down the runway and were complimented with a rich, neutral color palette. Coats, longline vests, and blazers were the main outerwear pieces, and menswear elements were incorporated into several of the looks, such as ties and collared dress shirts. I imagine that these pieces would elevate any wardrobe and are the perfect definition of elegance (AKA this was my favorite collection from Copenhagen Fashion Week).
