As I’ve gotten older, I’ve somehow begun to care less and less about the beginning of the year.
However, I still end up making resolutions and setting goals. Probably because I do want to enjoy a fresh start but without all the pressure.
Years ago, and even at the end of 2018, I remember scrambling around trying to clean my room and plan out everything perfectly before the new year began. But this year, I just let everything be. On NYE, I sat in my messy room, watched a show under 3 blankets, and thought, I’ll just deal with it all later, lol.
I don’t know how I’ll feel about the new year in the future, but for now, this is where I’m at. And now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get into my resolutions for 2020 (read about my 2019 resolutions here).
1. START READING ONE BOOK A MONTH.
I had this resolution last year, but didn’t fare too well with it. Elementary/middle school me would be horrified at the thought of only reading one book a month, but I want to start off slow and steady and we’ll see where it takes us.
2. CREATE A SOLID PLAN AND BUDGET FOR MY FINANCES.
The issues I’ve had in the last couple years with my finances were my income and planning out my spending. When I first started budgeting, my spending limit was extremely low because of my income, so it was hard to stay disciplined and not overspend. I also checked my finances at the end of every month, which wasn’t great because the damage would already be done, lol.
This year, I want to be better at creating a plan of how I’ll spend my money and keeping track of it throughout the month. I’ll probably have to test out lots of strategies, but I’m looking forward to figuring out a way to curb my spending habits and save more money.
3. PRIORITIZE MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH.
This resolution is back on the list because I’m definitely still a work in progress and there’s a lot of things I still want to address with my health. I’ll be addressing the specifics of this in a separate blog post, but the basic plan will be to implement a specific exercise plan that will get me in shape, find a way to fix my sleeping habits, figure out a way to keep my energy levels up (I’m always feeling fatigued throughout the day), and strengthen my body and mind.
4. LEARN MORE LANGUAGES.
I recently discovered what a polyglot is (polyglot: knowing or using several languages), and I’d like to start working my way towards that. I currently know of 4 languages, but I’m only completely fluent in one. Over the years, I’ve started watching things in different languages and I love learning about different cultures, so it inspired me to become multilingual. I hope to be fluent in 7 languages one day, but for now, I’m going to work on the ones I already know!
5. PURSUE CREATIVE PROJECTS.
I’m not going to put too much pressure on accomplishing this resolution simply because I have so many ideas and I don’t want to spread myself too thin. I have done a personal photography project for the last 2 years (I called it my 365 project where I took a photo(s) every day but it isn’t up for public viewing at the moment), but other than that, there are so many other avenues I want to explore.
Whether it’s getting back into music, bullet jounaling, drawing/doodling more, pushing myself with photography, doing more arts and crafts, working on creative writing, or learning how to create fashion pieces, at the very least, I want to dedicate more time to this blog. Throughout the years, I’ve seen many bloggers and influencers succeed in this space, and it’s because of their determination, drive, and ability to be consistent regardless of their level of talent or what their content is about (and a little luck!). Honestly, I’m still not entirely sure of what I want to be successful in, but I do know I want to succeed in a creative field. So although I don’t want to expect too much from this resolution, I do want to see myself be more creative this year.
So those are my resolutions; here’s how I’ve been faring so far:
1. START READING ONE BOOK A MONTH.
Although there’s still a few days left, I don’t think I’ll have any time to read a book this month. But we’ll try again next month!
2. CREATE A SOLID PLAN AND BUDGET FOR MY FINANCES.
I was thinking of tracking my spending every week, but didn’t get around to it until last week. However, after checking how much I spent, it wasn’t too bad. I’m looking forward to figuring out a budget for next month!
3. PRIORITIZE MY MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH.
I’ve been continuing my physical therapy and got some blood work done, but I’ve also been extremely busy with events and work so I don’t think I took care of my body very well. Going forward, I want to start working out again and adjusting my diet and sleeping habits to see how much that improves my health.
4. LEARN MORE LANGUAGES.
I’ve been dabbling into other languages and trying to have more conversations in different languages but I haven’t been studying as much as I would like.
5. PURSUE CREATIVE PROJECTS.
I’ve amped up my standards for my 365 photography project and I think it’ll be something I can finally show y’all this year. Before, it was more about capturing mundane parts of my life and seeing the beauty in it but this year I want to find art in each day. Besides that, I know I haven’t been as active on my blog as I would have liked, but I still feel like this year is going to be different and I’m brimming with ideas that I want to execute.
So that’s how January went for me. I hope to keep updating throughout the year about how my resolutions are going to keep myself accountable and track my progress. And we can do it together as well! Thank you so much for reading and I’ll see you lovelies soon. ?
