MY RESOLUTIONS FOR 2017

Happy Tuesday! Only 5 more days until a new year begins, and I couldn’t be more excited for it. Today I’m going to be talking about my resolutions for 2017, so let’s get into it!

So last year, I feel like I kept it real about what the new year and resolutions were all about (you can read more about it here). My main question was: what’s so special about January 1st? If you want to change your life, you can do it anytime.

I still ended up making some resolutions, and I think I actually accomplished some of them. I’ll review a few of them really quick because I believe this past year’s resolutions play a part in what I chose as my goals for next year (if you want to see my 2016 resolutions, click here!).

1. Be aggressive.

I’m a naturally shy person, so I wanted to work on this in 2016. I don’t think I kept this resolution, but it was a harder one since it required me to change a big part of who I am. However, I did start participating in my classes a little more and asking questions, so I think that’s a step in the right direction.

2. Spend more time alone.

I definitely accomplished this one, but it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted it to. It was nice to spend time with myself, but I think something I noticed was that I ended up feeling distant from my school friends. Other dynamics changed too, which I’ll explain later on.

3. Declutter my life.

This is an ongoing process, but I think I’ve done well so far in getting rid of things I don’t need!

I also made some small resolutions and I think the one I’ve done well in is learning a new language. I took a Korean class this past semester and I’ve been brushing up on my Vietnamese!

Okay, so now onto my 2017 resolutions! I guess 2016 wasn’t a total loss, but I want to start fresh in the new year. 2015 was a rough year for me because I had too much on my plate; this year, I was more emotionally affected and I want to take the necessary steps to move on from that. Even though I still don’t really believe in the new year being a new beginning, I want to give it a chance this time.

1. Be physically and emotionally healthy.

After how 2015 and 2016 treated me, I found that it’s important now more than ever to take care of myself. Being physically healthy doesn’t just mean I need to be super fit and toned (although that would be nice!). It just means making healthier choices for myself. Whether it’s getting more sleep, drinking more water, and making sure I take the time to lower my stress levels, I want to make my body healthier from the inside out.

In terms of my mental health, I just need to figure things out. I need to evaluate where I stand and what will make me happy. Instead of living my life for others, I need to live for myself. It’s easier said than done, but I hope I can become a happier person in 2017.

2. Live life with more enthusiasm.

Starting from around May of this year, I feel like I wasn’t being as enthusiastic about life as I should have been. I became a homebody, which isn’t a bad thing, but I think it was for the wrong reasons. I found it difficult to leave the house and I was being really lethargic and lazy. I now realize that it was because of my negative mental state. I wasn’t living, I was just existing.

It also didn’t help that I felt like I was becoming distant from my school friends. Few people hit me up and I didn’t contact anyone either. Many of my older college friends have graduated in the last couple of years and are working, so I don’t really see them around anymore. I’ve also stopped going out to events, which I used to go to because I liked to socialize with people.

So although I can blame people for not reaching out, I also have to fault myself for retreating into my own little bubble. That’s why one of my resolutions next year is to become more enthusiastic about life. I want to go out more, whether alone or with friends, make the effort to reach out first, and to make sure I accomplish something every day, no matter how small.

3. Be more creative with my blog and take it to another level.

This year, I changed my blog name and bought the domain for it, which was a big step for me in terms of committing to it. I’ve also been posting for the last 6 months, which I didn’t even notice, but I’m really proud of myself for that. I’ve taken a lot of breaks, but I’m glad that I’ve been able to keep it going even though I have a part-time job and I’m a full-time student.

But I want to do even more for it next year. I hope to improve on my photography skills and become more creative. I feel like I’ve been posting good content, but I want to do more. I want to write aesthetically pleasing posts that are also helpful. I want to attempt asking some people I know to help me take photos (fun fact: all my outfit photos are taken by me!) and improve on my graphic design skills/ask for help from others.

I also want to interact with more blogs and discover lots of other people and maybe make some online friendships with some of you!

4. Make time for creativity.

School has always come before my passion for artistic things, but I want to make it more of a priority in 2017. I haven’t covered a song or sung in front of a crowd in a long time, and my drawing skills have never been amazing, but the last time I put effort into drawing was probably back in high school when I took my one and only art class.

I love making things and being creative, but it’s always been pushed to the side for other priorities. My blog and doodling in class are probably the few ways that I’ve been able to express my creative side. So I hope that 2017 will be a much more creative year, which will also benefit this blog!

So those are my resolutions for 2017! Surprisingly, it wasn’t hard to come up with these and I didn’t have to narrow it down out of a super long list either. Let me know what your resolutions are in the comments below! Thanks for reading and I’ll see you lovelies tomorrow!
