Hello lovelies! Sorry I skipped a couple days on blogging; my college graduation came up so quickly so I felt unprepared and I didn’t have time to blog. But anyways, today I have a review on a skincare product!
WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO:
The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel with hyaluronic acid is supposed to improve moisture in the skin and give you soft and smooth skin.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance that naturally occurs in the human body, but is lost over time as we age and needs to be replaced. It’s been considered a popular ingredient in skincare because of its ability to retain up to 1000 times its weight in water.
Common uses for hyaluronic acid are to heal wounds and burns. For skincare, it is found in many moisturizers and anti-aging products because its hydrating properties can apparently help with wrinkles and fine lines.
Because of how much water hyaluronic acid can hold, it’s mainly used in hydrating skincare products. It helps dry skin because of the high level of moisture. On the other hand, since oily skin is caused by the skin believing that it’s dehydrated and producing additional oil, a product that contains hyaluronic acid could potentially reduce oil production and hydrate the skin.
MY SKIN TYPE:
Oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin.
MY EXPERIENCE:
PACKAGING:
The tub looks quite large when you buy it and the packaging is elaborate for a drugstore product. It is expensive for a drugstore item, but the price isn’t too steep.
However, once you open it, there’s not that much product inside and you can use it up pretty quickly even though you don’t need much. Mine lasted for less than 2 months and I used it at night and sometimes before wearing makeup.
FRAGRANCE AND TEXTURE:
This has a pleasant, but strong scent. It smells almost identical to Dove body wash, so if you’re sensitive to fragrances, I wouldn’t recommend this product.
The texture is smooth and feels like a fusion of a gel and moisturizer. On the skin, it feels light and absorbs into the skin very quickly. When you wake up, your skin does feel more plump and hydrated.
RESULTS:
When I first purchased this product, it was at a time where my skin was feeling extra sensitive. Even though I hadn’t changed anything in my skincare routine, my usual products started to sting my skin. And when I would use a hydrating sheet mask, I would receive the same results. So I bought this in the hopes of it helping my skin.
It did sting my skin at the beginning and I worried that it would cause my skin to react and break out even though I had seen so many good reviews on it. However, eventually my skin calmed down and it kept my skin feeling super moisturized.
When I wore it underneath my makeup, I think it was a factor in keeping me from getting oily too quickly. So I would recommend it both as a nighttime and a daytime moisturizer. You only need a nickel-sized amount to moisturize your entire face, but you can add a little more at a time as needed.
OVERALL:
Now that I’ve finished using it, I’m debating on repurchasing it. Even though I had a positive experience with it, it didn’t become a holy grail product for me. I think it’s a really good moisturizer and I believe in the hyaluronic acid hype now, but I’ll probably try out other products for now. However, I can definitely see myself coming back to this in the future if I’m looking for a hydrating and plumping moisturizer!
So that’s my review for today! Thanks so much for reading; let me know if you have any recommendations for moisturizers for oily skin! I’ll see you lovelies tomorrow!
