PIXI GLOW TONIC REVIEW

Hello lovelies! For today’s Skin Deep post, I’m going to be doing a review on the cult skincare favorite: the Pixi Glow Tonic!

WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO:

The Pixi Glow Tonic is a toner with 5% glycolic acid. It claims to smooth out the skin’s texture by exfoliating and removing dead skin cells to reveal healthier-looking skin. You can use it in the morning and night depending on your skin’s sensitivity.

WHAT IS GLYCOLIC ACID?

Glycolic acid is part of the larger category of alpha hydroxy acids and is a naturally-occurring substance found in plants. It is mostly used for exfoliation and in chemical peels to help remove dead skin cells. Products containing glycolic acid usually treat scarring, discoloration, or signs of aging.

It can be found in many skincare items, including ones for sensitive skin. Consulting a dermatologist is always best to figure out what products are best for your skin type, but using glycolic acid in products with a lower percentage is usually safe for most people. However, sunscreen is recommended if used during the daytime, especially if you have more sensitive skin (although we should always be using sunscreen!).

MY SKIN TYPE:

Oily, sensitive, acne-prone skin.

MY EXPERIENCE:

I’ve been using this for several months now and I’m partially through my second 100 mL bottle. When I first started using this, I noticed that it stung a little bit, but it went away in seconds. This was probably because my skin was still getting used to the new product and it also stings when you apply it to any freshly popped blemishes, since those are technically open wounds.

It doesn’t dry out my skin like most toners would. In fact, my skin feels pretty hydrated and refreshed. I use this after I cleanse my face at night and I don’t use a cotton pad to apply this to my face; instead I pour a little bit into my hand and spread it across the areas that are most affected by acne and scarring. Then I add more as needed.

Even though I’ve been using this toner for months, I still can’t figure out what type of fragrance this is. I think I’ve heard some people say it has something to do with roses, but I’m not sure myself. For reference, some of the other ingredients in it are aloe, ginseng, horse chestnut extracts, and witch hazel. If you’re sensitive to fragrances, then this might not be the toner for you, but I think it’s a pleasant smell and it’s not overwhelming.

In terms of results,  I didn’t think it was making a difference at first, but it does now. Initially, I would notice that my skin looked healthier and had more of a glow, which was probably due to the exfoliating properties of the glycolic acid. Nowadays, I’ve noticed that my acne scars fade faster when I use this and my skin feels even cleaner without feeling stripped, which is a huge plus for us oily-skinned girls.

So if you’ve been thinking about trying out this toner and you’re wondering if it actually works and it’s not just overhyped, I would say go for it! It can be found at Target (which means you could probably easily return it), the smaller 100 mL version is only $15, and it should work well on people with sensitive and oily to normal skin types.

Thanks for reading and I hope this post was helpful. See you lovelies tomorrow!

    1. I was really skeptical about it, but I ended up loving it! Give it a try, the worst that could happen is that you have to return it! 🙂
