SKIN DEEP | THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE OIL REVIEW

When it comes to treating acne, facial cleansers, serums, toners, and so on can be a hit or miss because everyone’s skin is different. The same goes for spot treatments. If you want to know my thoughts on The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil, then just keep on reading!

WHAT IT CLAIMS TO DO

This tea tree oil from The Body Shop is supposed to treat blemishes and reduce them quickly. It’s also 100% vegan and The Body Shop claims to steam-distill their tea tree leaves 12 hours after harvest for a potent oil.

[Something to note is that this isn’t 100% tea tree oil, which means some people have argued about its effectiveness. However, I’ve also heard that 100% tea tree oil is too strong to apply directly to your skin, so it’s best to dilute. I personally don’t trust myself to dilute it correctly, so I prefer to purchase it when it’s already diluted.]

INGREDIENTS

Water, Alcohol Denat., Polysorbate 60, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Limonene, Calophyllum Inophyllum Seed Oil, t-Butyl Alcohol, Citral, Leptospermum Petersonii (Lemon Tea Tree) Oil, Denatonium Benzoate, Tocopherol.

MY SKIN TYPE

Oily, acne-prone, and sensitive.

MY EXPERIENCE

When I was doing research on spot treatments, I was super clueless because I didn’t know what would and wouldn’t work for me. I picked tea tree oil because it seemed like the most natural choice.

I like to use this with a Q-tip to apply it directly to my blemishes. This has a strong, bitter, earthy smell so I personally didn’t like it at first. But don’t worry, the smell doesn’t linger! It dissipates quickly, so you won’t notice it anymore after a few minutes.

I’ve also tried it on open blemishes to see what would happen and it stung a bit, but it delivered slightly better results. Overall, it worked on some spots but not on others.

After using it for several months, I would say that this does help with acne, but it’s mostly good at bringing down redness and swelling. It will shrink your spots a bit, but it doesn’t deliver results overnight; it’s more gradual.

THE VERDICT

If you’re looking for something to help with mild acne, this would be a good choice. Like I said earlier, it gradually helps with blemishes, but it won’t get rid of them right away. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing because treating them naturally is probably better than aggressively attacking them with chemicals or super strong treatments.

However, I think I’ll try out other spot treatments. This would be nice for when I want to use a more natural product, but since I get hormonal acne from time to time, I want to see if there are other effective treatments. Also, this is the first spot treatment that I’ve ever tried so I don’t have much to compare it to. In the end, I do like it and I would repurchase, but for now I want to test out other products.

So that’s it for today’s review; I hope you found this helpful! What spot treatments have you tried that work for you? Let me know in the comments! Thanks so much for reading and I’ll see you lovelies soon. ?
